Motorola engineers, along with staff from COIRS, completed the final checklist and officially brought the site up on the air this morning. This site is now bringing expanded area coverage and improved in building coverage in Hilliard, Norwich Twp and Brown Twp. The two channel expansion was also completed on all sites but will not be turned on until COIRS receives FCC approval.
**System Maintenance Alert – Friday Night 02/19**
XO Communications notified COIRS that they will be performing emergency updates to the network switches that support our radio system between Friday 02/19 @ 23:00 and Saturday 02/20 @ 06:00. There will be at least one connectivity interruption of up to 2 to 3 hours during this time frame that will cause the system to go into site trunking. Dispatchers will need to be ready to use back up radios/walkies during this outage. Field units may receive the “SITE TRUNKING” notice on their radios, but can continue to operate on their normal talk-groups.
If you have any questions/concerns about the outages, please contact Jay Somerville
Failsoft Event – Friday 11/06
On Friday 11/06 at approximately 04:50hrs, the south simulcast went into a Failsoft condition for all users. Failsoft is a condition where the channels stop trunking and the system becomes a 7 channel conventional radio system. B&C Communications responded to the incident to discover a failure of the GPS receiver at the Avery Road site. The GPS is used to ensure all sites are synchronized. When this unit failed, trunking stopped. They quickly replaced the GPS unit with one of the on-site spares and the system was back in full service by 06:30am.
During the time the system was in Failsoft, users were still able to communicate by voice without interruption just as the system is designed.
If you have any questions about this incident, or need more information on the function of Failsoft, please contact Patrick Brandt or Jay Somerville.

Field units may receive the “SITE TRUNKING” notice on their radios, but can continue to operate on their normal talk-groups.
